Tirana Saw Us

When Creedence calmly came,
Asked if you'd ever seen the rain,
They never would have dreamed
Of the rains that I have seen.

In Albania's capital it was pouring;
Rain fell without warning.
It came down from the heavens,
Rain dialled up to eleven.

With increasing shocks of thunder
The rain grew stronger and stronger.
Drenching man, woman and child;
The streets were Wet 'n' Wild.

Each drop descended down
And plopped flatly on the ground.
Rain heavy like pumpkin soup
Drenched an unaware tour group.

The rain in sunny Spain
May stay mainly in the plain
But the rain in trendy Tirana
Bites like a deadly piranha.

We desperately searched for cover,
Hid in a communist-era bunker.
We huddled, waiting for the close.
American tourists donned their ponchos.

We waited more for it to pass,
And when we thought it had at last,
We ran for better cover
But the rain started again, this time even stronger.
