Hear A Klingon

Visiting the island of Crete during the off-season brings with it an array of challenges. There are limited flights out of the island, the ferries to other islands don’t run as often and the weather is, to say the least, not too beachy. But, despite this, I decided to take the overnight ferry down to Heraklion.

Arriving at first light I was struck by how quiet and sombre everything was. The streets were practically empty. The beige apartment blocks that housed tourists during the summer were empty and looking a little worse for wear. But then again it was only seven in the morning. And so as the sun rose, so did the rest of the town. Although a little slower. I walked around town, I ate, I went to a museum. In the evening I enjoyed walking along the cobbled pedestrian streets, passing by little tavernas and mezze places serving the local Saturday night crowd.
